Steven Higley joined McInturf Realty in 2025 after a 37 year career in land surveying and construction inspection. Having been involved in all types of construction, from airfields, to high rise buildings, to siting residential homes on steep North Carolina mountainsides, Steven aims to bring his expertise to commercial clients and residential clients who hope to build their dream home.

My Background

A graduate of Marion Pleasant High School, Steven served in the US Army as a construction surveyor and soils tester, inspected construction for CTL Engineering in Columbus, and then embarked on a land surveying career that took him to Montana, Wisconsin, Arizona, and North Carolina. Steven was sole proprietor of Kudzu Survey Associates PLLC in Mars Hill NC from 2015 to 2024. Steven has an MA in History from Appalachian State University and a BA in Spanish from Fayetteville State University.

My Approach

Steven believes in asking the right questions in order to properly define goals, ultimately arriving at ‘What does done look like?’ This can apply to the purchase of a residential home or the construction of a 12-unit commercial retail plaza. A critical aspect of this is risk management: define the difficult aspects of a project, and especially the hidden obstacles, so that success can be achieved as simply as possible. A real estate transaction can be stressful, and Steven hopes to alleviate that stress, earning the client’s trust and confidence in the process.

More About Me

Steven’s passion is history, and his studies have focused on the nexus between policy and economics. His prize possession is a library of over 1000 volumes. When not reading, Steven manages two mediocre fantasy baseball teams. Being a land surveyor, naturally hiking throughout the West, the Appalachians, and the Lake Superior area has been an ongoing pursuit.
